Dinner Dates is one of the experiences offered by Date in the Diary.
Date in the Diary is a members’ club for social singles, bringing people together through a full calendar of events including walks, socials, quizzes, live music, sporting events, weekends away and much more.
Dinner Date is a separate experience where we carefully match six compatible single people for a relaxed evening out at a local restaurant.
You don’t need to be a Date in the Diary member to register for Dinner Date – everyone is welcome to apply.
If you’re looking to meet more single people outside of Dinner Date, we’d love to welcome you as a Date in the Diary member too. Many people enjoy both, as they offer different ways to build friendships, grow your social circle and, who knows, perhaps meet someone special.
The more we know about you, the better the chance of creating a great dinner group.
We don’t just match people by age or location. We look at personality, interests, lifestyle, conversation style, social preferences and life stage to help build a table of people who are likely to enjoy each other’s company.
The questionnaire isn’t about finding your perfect partner—it’s about creating a relaxed, enjoyable evening with people you’ll genuinely connect with.
Once you’ve completed your registration, there’s nothing else you need to do.
Our team will carefully review your questionnaire and add you to our matching list. We don’t automatically create dinner groups – every group is put together by a real person who has read everyone’s answers and is looking for the best mix of personalities, ages, interests and life stages.
As soon as we’ve created a dinner group that we think you’ll enjoy, we’ll be in touch by email and WhatsApp with an invitation.
Every registration is different.
Some people may receive an invitation quite quickly, while others may wait a little longer. We only create a dinner when we feel we have the right combination of six people.
Our priority is creating enjoyable evenings rather than filling tables quickly.
Please note that registering your interest does not guarantee that you’ll be invited to a Dinner Date, as this depends on finding a suitable group match.
Every Dinner Date is personally matched by our team.
We use the information you provide on your questionnaire to help create groups of people who are likely to enjoy spending an evening together.
We’ll consider things like:
* Age and life stage
* Personality
* Interests and hobbies
* Lifestyle
* Conversation style
* Social preferences
This isn’t an algorithm or AI deciding who sits together. It’s a real person taking the time to build groups using the information you’ve shared.
No match is ever going to tick every single box, but we’ll always do our best to create a group where everyone will enjoy the evening.
Dinner Dates are currently available for single people aged 35-65.
By “single”, we mean people who are genuinely available to meet someone, whether that’s never married, divorced, widowed or separated.
When you register, we’re trusting that the information you provide is accurate and truthful.
You’ll only be asked to pay if you’re invited to a Dinner Date.
The Dinner Date booking fee is £20 per person (Date in the Diary members receive a discounted rate).
Your food and drinks are then paid directly to the restaurant on the evening.
At the end of the evening, we recommend that the group splits the bill fairly between everyone attending.
If some guests have ordered significantly more than others – for example, alcoholic drinks, extra courses or premium items – we encourage everyone to use common sense and adjust the split accordingly.
Date in the Diary isn’t responsible for dividing or collecting the restaurant bill.
That’s absolutely fine.
If you’ve registered but decide Dinner Date isn’t for you, simply let us know as soon as possible and we’ll remove you from our matching list.
If you’re feeling unsure or have any questions before making that decision, we’d be very happy to have a chat first.
You’ll receive your invitation by email and WhatsApp.
We’ll ask you to confirm your place within the timeframe stated in your invitation (usually 24 hours).
Once payment has been received, your place at the table is secured.
After your Dinner Date, we’ll also get back in touch to hear how the evening went. We’d love your feedback, and we’ll ask whether you’d like to be considered for future Dinner Dates too. Your feedback helps us continue creating great dining experiences and even better matches in the future.
No problem.
Simply let us know as soon as possible.
Declining one invitation won’t affect your chance of being invited to future Dinner Dates.
That’s completely normal.
In fact, most people tell us they felt a little nervous before their first Dinner Date.
The good news is that everyone sitting around the table is in exactly the same position, and it usually takes just a few minutes for everyone to relax.
If you’re feeling anxious beforehand, please give us a call. We’re always happy to chat things through and answer any questions.

Everyone attending will be single and open to meeting new people.
Some people may be hoping to date, while others simply want to meet like-minded singles and see where things lead.
There’s no pressure and no expectations—just a relaxed evening with good conversation.
Don’t worry – you’re certainly not the first person to feel that way!
If you’ve enjoyed meeting someone but didn’t feel confident asking for their contact details on the evening, just get in touch with us.
With both people’s permission, we’ll happily help make the introduction after the Dinner Date. We won’t ever share anyone’s contact details without their consent, but if the interest is mutual, we’ll do our best to help you reconnect.
Sometimes it’s easier to ask us than to ask across the dinner table, and we’re more than happy to help.
Absolutely.
If you enjoy your experience, you’re welcome to register your interest for future Dinner Dates too.
Each dinner will feature a different mix of people wherever possible.
Our aim is to introduce you to as many new people as possible.
Wherever we can, we’ll create new dinner groups so you’re meeting different singles each time you attend. Occasionally you may see someone you’ve met before at another Date in the Diary event, but we’ll always do our best to keep each Dinner Date fresh and introduce you to new faces.
Not at all.
Dinner Date is designed to feel like friends meeting for dinner, not a dating event.
There are no name badges, no rotations, no timers and no awkward introductions.
Just six single people sharing great food and conversation in a relaxed restaurant.
No problem.
You’ll have the opportunity to tell us about any allergies or dietary requirements when you register, and again pre dinner confirmation and we’ll pass these on to the restaurant where appropriate.

Welcome to Dinner Date
Dinner Date brings together small groups of six single people (typically three men and three women) to enjoy great food, relaxed conversation and an enjoyable evening out.
Our aim isn’t to “match” people in the traditional sense. Instead, we carefully create tables of people who we think will genuinely enjoy spending an evening together.
There are no right or wrong answers to the questions below. They simply help us get to know you and create balanced groups where everyone feels comfortable, included and has a great night.
