Garsington Opera is an annual summer opera festival founded in 1989. The Philharmonia Orchestra and The English Concert are its two resident orchestras. The festival is held on the stunning Wormsley Estate, near Stokenchurch in Buckinghamshire. Performances take place in the specially designed seasonal Opera Pavilion from within which it is possible to view the Wormsley grounds and surrounding beauty of the Chiltern landscape. This maintains the link with the outside, a tradition at Garsington Opera. The performances begin in the early evening, allowing for a long dinner during the interval, and everyone is in evening dress. There are bars and fine dining all in a beautiful setting.
Love and humanity are the central themes which weave through the 2025 operas. The festival opens with a vibrant and fun new production of L’elisir d’amore. This is a more uplifting opera, as it is a romantic comedy set in the 20th century, with a more contemporary setting than the original score. The opera charts the pain and joy of young lovers Nemorino and Adina’s journey, despite the shadow of snake oil salesman Dr Dulcamara’s false promises. Donizetti’s melodies and humour will be brought to life by a fabulous cast and the world-class Philharmonia Orchestra. We have secured group tickets in the Middle Stalls on the last night of this opera.
There 90-minute long dinner interval, which is a central feature of an evening at Garsington Opera and there are a variety of dining and picnicking options available for you. We have provisionally booked a terrace picnic table with a view to the group bringing your own picnic BUT other dining options can be discussed so ket us know.
If you like opera and have not experienced Garsington – this is a must! Book early as when the tickets have gone they have gone….bookings required by mid March.
