Sunday Hike | Christmas Common & Watlington Hill
Looking for a Sunday plan that’s equal parts fresh air, great views, and good company?
Join us for this beautiful 5-mile circular walk through the stunning Chiltern countryside, starting from Christmas Common and taking in woodland trails, peaceful lanes, and the breathtaking views from Watlington Hill.
This walk really offers the best of both worlds — scenic forest paths followed by panoramic hilltop views across the valley. Expect plenty of conversation, a few laughs along the way, and a proper sense of achievement by the end.
The walk will be led by one of our lovely members, Debbie, who knows the route well. However, please note this is an informal social walk and Debbie is not a professional walking guide, so we ask everyone attending to take personal responsibility and work together as a group along the route.
We’ll provide all attendees with the route map and directions ahead of time, and we’ll also set up a WhatsApp group the day before so everyone can coordinate easily.
A couple of important things to note:
-
The walk is approximately 5 miles and will take around 2 hours 30 minutes
-
There is one long climb and one shorter steep climb
-
A moderate level of fitness is recommended, as we’ll be walking at a good pace
-
Dogs are very welcome 🐾 (please keep them on a lead where required)
There is parking available at the National Trust car park at Watlington Hill.
And of course, no Sunday hike is complete without a pub option at the end…After the walk, we recommend regrouping at The Fox & Hounds for a well-earned drink, lunch, or both.
Whether you come for the countryside, the social, or the pub afterwards, this is the perfect way to spend a Sunday with the group.
Book your place, pull on your trainers, and join us for a feel-good Sunday in the Chilterns.
